15 Dog Friendly Places in (and around) Fukuoka City
Looking to spend a day out on the town with your pooch? We have you covered! Here are 15 dog friendly cafes, restaurants, and excursions in and around Fukuoka City.
BioTop Ramusio
Located on the Akasaka side of Ohori Park and Fukuoka Castle, this trendy restaurant / plant nursery / select shop hybrid is a pet-friendly choice for a lunch or dinner course in the city. Pets are not only allowed at the outdoor seats, but inside the restaurant area as well. Aside from course meals, the desserts are also expertly made and delicious if you’re in the need for a coffee-break.
FUK COFFEE®︎PARKS
On the opposite side of Ohori Park, a short walk from the Ohori Kouen subway station, FUK Coffee Parks is the second location in the city for this popular three-letter cafe. Enjoy airport themed latte art and simple one-plate desserts here with your furry friend. Free WiFi is also available, if you’re interested in co-working with your pup!
Kitsune Cafe Mori (vegan/veg 🌱)
Nestled in the seaside neighborhood of Momochi, Kitsune Cafe Mori is a recent addition to the growing Fukuoka vegan/vegetarian restaurant scene, that also happens to be pet friendly! On a fair-weather day, this is a great place to relax on your way back from a visit to the popular Momochi Beach. Of course, non-vegetarian food options are available as well!
The Beach
If seaside is more your jam, then The Beach, located directly behind Fukuoka Tower, on the shores of Momochi Beach is an excellent place to visit with your pooch. Both indoor and outdoor seating is permitted, so you can escape the heat and refresh, or enjoy the fresh ocean air on the patio. Group barbeque (and halal friendly barbecue) options are available in the summer, if you want to come with friends!
Branch OTTO. Yakuin
In a quiet corner behind Yakuin Station, Branch OTTO. Yakuin is one of many restaurants in the popular local OTTO chain, but only one of few that allows you to visit with your pet. Dogs are allowed to join diners on the covered terrace patio (protected on rainy days), and the menu offers a wide selection of hearty meals and fluffy desserts. During lunch, an “all you can drink” open soft-drink bar is available, along with Free WiFi, so you can spend time working remotely in the fresh air while doggy does his people-watching.
NICE Cafe (vegan/veg🌱)
Another plant-based cafe, this time located on the outskirts of Tenjin in the quiet neighborhood of Kego, NICE is a minimalist and clean cafe and restaurant with a simple plant-based menu. Try the plant-based burgers, falafels, and banana-based “nice cream” for a nice and healthy lunch. The owners have two dogs of their own who also sometimes make an appearance in-store.
Manly Cafe
Famous for their outlandish dinner menu (featuring Aussie beef, kangaroo, crocodile, emu, and other interesting items), and their trendy fluffy souffle style pancakes, Manly is a restaurant and cafe named after the famous Manly Beach in Australia. The central location to Tenjin makes it a perfect pit-stop during a day of exploring the downtown shopping district. Dogs are allowed both inside the restaurant., and outside on the patio.
Bills Fukuoka
Another restaurant with Australian roots, Bills is a popular diner located in central Fukuoka City along the river, and offers all kinds of comfort food such as breakfast plates, steak sandwiches, pancakes, shakes and smoothies. Dogs are welcome to sit out on the river-side terrace, and on a sunny day this is a great way to take in the city.
White Glass Coffee
Located close to Hakata Station, and a short walk from Canal City, White Glass Coffee is a trendy cafe that offers drinks, light meals, and delicious desserts. Indoor seating (with power outlets and free wifi) are available for those looking for a place to remote work, however, if doggie is tagging along, it is likely you will be asked to sit outside at one of the patio tables.
V’s Fort Cafe
If you’re planning to take your dog on a roadtrip outside of the city to explore Shiraito No Taki Waterfall, or maybe go hiking in Tateishiyama in Itoshima, then a quick pit stop at V’s fort in the far west of Fukuoka City in Imajuku might be exactly what you need to fuel for an adventurous day. Dog jerky is available for purchase as well, so that your furry friend can have something to snack on while you enjoy your meal.
WanPark Cafe Ohori
If an outing specifically FOR your dog is more your aim, then there are two Wanpark locations in Fukuoka City that cater to having fun with your pet. The WanPark shop located just outside of Ohori Park has a trimming salon, a pet hotel, and a “indoor dog run” which is actually more like a play-zone for well socialized dogs who wish to meet other well socialized dogs. You can order a drink for yourself from the cafe, or order a bowl of specialty dog food for your pooch. Birthday cakes are even available if you’re wanting to celebrate your doggie’s special day.
WanPark Cafe NishiNakasu
Located in the center of the city (amid the fanciest restaurants and red-light district), the Nakasu Wanpark location is open 24 hours to accommodate all the different hectic schedules in the area. You can visit the cafe space for a quick breather with your pet, or you can drop them off for the day for some serious pampering (massage, bath, trim) while you take the day off to go shopping solo.
Bonus: Three day-trips from Fukuoka City with your dog.
Itoshima
During the summer, Itoshima is one of the most popular places to be. The beautiful blue water is popular with swimmers and surfers, the pure white torii that stands in front of two wedded rocks is one of the most instagrammed locations in Fukuoka, and many cafes line the twisting coastal road that leads you around the peninsula. In principle, any cafe with a terrace or outdoor seating is Dog Friendly, but if you need a few suggestions, I recommend: Sunflower Cafe & Restaurant, Current, and Palm Beach.
Fukuma Beach
Heading north, up towards Kitakyushu, you can find Fukuma Beach, another stretch of seaside in Fukuoka Prefecture. Although it definitely is not as popular (or as meticulously maintained) as Itoshima, there is benefit in heading out this way as it is infinitely less crowded. Plenty of cafes along the shore (Lanai Cafe , Mahalo ) are pet friendly, and further down the beach there is even a dog-run where visitors can let their dogs socialize off leash (vaccination and rabies certificates required.)
Mitsuse Farm Herb Garden (Saga Prefecture)
For something completely different, one of my personal favorite one-day excursions from the city, is a venture back towards the Sefuri Mountain range that borders Fukuoka and Saga Prefecture. There, you’ll find Mitsuse Farm Herb Garden (reservation strongly recommended), a delicious farm-to-table restaurant operating out of a log-cabin in the mountains. The terrace seating is dog friendly, and they’ll even bring a bowl of water for your dog to enjoy while you eat (all the main course meals are great, but the herb pizza is a must-try.) After eating, you can drop by Hokuzan Dam for a nature-walk with doggo.
